Bhanu Athaiya was the first Indian as well as first woman to won Oscar. Bhanu Athaiya had debuted her career with various Bombay women’s magazine as a freelancer. She used to prepare fashion sketches for them. Later she became excel in designing clothes and designed clothes for the first time for Guru Dutt’s films.
Bhanu Athaiya won Oscar or Academy Award for the film Gandhi, directed by Richard Attenborough. She was also nominated for British Academy Film Award for Best Costume Design for the same.
In 1991 and 2002, Bhanu Athaiya achieved National film award for best costume design for films ‘Lekin’ and ‘Lagaan’.
In 2009, she also received Filmfare’s lifetime achievement award in costume designing.

Satyajit Ray was the great filmmaker, author, lyricist and music composer. Also, Satyajit Ray was the first Indian who received Honorary Award of Oscar for his lifetime work. In his life time, he directed total 36 films.
He started his career from the British advertisement agency where he was responsible for graphic designs.
In 1947, Satyajit Ray with Chidananda Dasgupta founded Calcutta Film Society. There he also showed many foreign movies of which Ray took keen interest. Interesting turn came, when D.J. Keymer sent Satyajit Ray at his headquarter in the London to work.
He lived there for three months and watched many movies and later he came to the conclusion to become a film maker. Ray debuted his movie making career with the film ‘Pather Panchali’. It received huge appreciation not just from India but also from foreign countries. Satyajit Ray got words in his favor even after the release of his second film, ‘Aparajito’ which shows the struggles of a man for his ambitions and a mother who loves him.
After that there was no stop in the film making career of Satyajit Ray. He directed many films such as ‘Charulata’, ‘Apur Sansar’, ‘Shatranj ke Khilari’ and many more.
Satyajit Ray was honored by many awards for his work such as:
- National Film Award by the Government of India.
- At the Moscow International Film Festival he received honorable prize for his contribution to the Cinema.
- Similarly, at Venice Film Festival he was honoured with Golden Lion Honorary Award.
- Oxford University, one of the reputed university, gave him an honorary doctorate.
- In 1965, he got ‘Padma Bhushan’, a third highest civilian award, by the Government of India.
- He also received highest civilian honor ‘Bharat Ratna’.

Along with them he was also honored with third highest civilian award, ‘Padma Bhushan’ in 2010 by the Government of India. It’s not the end of list for A.R. Rahman, he also has four National Film Award and sixteen Filmfare Award South.
He started learning musical instruments at the age of 11. A.R. Rahman started his career by founding his own Chennai based rock band. Thus, he mastered himself in playing piano, harmonium, keyboard, synthesizer and guitar. Rahman composed many songs which received huge appreciation and gave him way to the Bollywood.
A.R. Rahman composed many popular songs for movies like Swades, Rand De Basanti, Jodha Akbar, Guru, Lagaan, Highway, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Kochadaiiyaan, Rockstar and many more. He also worked for Hollywood movies named Million Dollar Arm, Elizabeth:The Golden Age, Couples Retreat. Gulzar is popular poet, lyricist and a successful director. His real name is Sampooran Singh Kalra but he is famous by his pen name ‘Gulzar’.He debuted his career as a lyricist for the movie ‘Bandini’ in 1963.
Gulzar worked with many renowned personalities like,Madan Mohan, Rajesh Roshan, Anu Malik, A.R. Rahman. He has good coordination with Rahman, together they gave adorable list of songs such as ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’( worked as lyricist), ‘Jai Ho’ for which they received Academy and Grammy Award.

He started his career from the film ‘Private detective’ by Rajat Kapoor but got famous after working in the film ‘Black’ which collected lots appreciation from everywhere.
